Thyroid Malignancy

Common presentation is in form of solitary thyroid nodule or a goiter, often patient may be asymptomatic
Can have metastatic neck lymph nodes
Local invasion can present as hoarseness of voice, breathlessness and difficulty in swallowing
Bone, lung or brain metastatic spread is seen in advanced malignancy
Investigations
  • FNAC of the nodule( free hand or USG guided)
  • Core needle biopsy
  • serum calcitonin
  • Ultra sonography of neck
  • CT scan of neck

Surgery is the main treatment option. Differentiated thyroid cancers are treated with Total thyroidectomy, neck lymph node dissection (if required) followed by radio iodine whole body scan and ablation.
